Portrait of Shegye

In memory of Shegye

Our Story

Shegye was a remarkable woman—strong, independent, and dedicated in her roles as a mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her unwavering work ethic and resilience inspired those around her. To her community, she was more than just a neighbor; she was a beacon of kindness and compassion, always ready to lend a helping hand or offer a word of encouragement.

Her generosity extended beyond her immediate circle, as she believed in giving back and making a positive difference in the lives of others.

Rooted deeply in her faith, she found comfort and strength in her beliefs. She held a special conviction that food was more than just nourishment—it was a way to nourish the soul and bring people together. Her Ethiopian dishes, rich with fragrant spices and crafted with love, reflected this philosophy.

Food was more than just nourishment—it was a way to nourish the soul and bring people together.

In her honor, we are proud to open this grocery store dedicated to her memory and her legacy of kindness, community, and love for authentic Ethiopian food. We hope this store will be a place where everyone can find nourishment, warmth, and a sense of belonging, just as she always made everyone feel.

The Shegye Process

Sourcing

1. The Sourcing

We work hand-in-hand with local farming cooperatives across the Ethiopian highlands. By ensuring fair trade, we secure the most vibrant, robust chilis and spices right after harvest.

Preparation

2. The Preparation

Patience is our secret ingredient. Our spices are slowly sun-dried to naturally intensify their flavor profiles, preserving the essential oils that give Ethiopian cuisine its distinct aroma.
